Wide awake. Just after midnight, and I can’t shut my brain down. Way too many things to do, catch up on, think about. Now I can’t stop thinking about why I can’t sleep. Oh yeah…caffeine late in the day. That’ll do it.
This is my first blog, so I’m also awake thinking of how I’m going to do this, what I want to blog about, what you want to read. I have 15 years of experience in the recruiting industry, so between tips and tricks geared towards candidates, hiring managers and recruiters, I figure there’s at least some grand wisdom I can impart. If nothing else, funny stories about interviews-gone-wrong are always a hit.
I’m planning to cover things like how to find great candidates (vs. perfect candidates), how to convince your hiring managers that there are no perfect candidates so they don’t interview 30 applicants over six months for the same role and then reply that “nobody seems to be what we’re looking for,” how candidates should prepare for job interviews (which includes interviewing with the initial recruiter – they really are gatekeepers that everyone should be nice to), and so on.
Hopefully these types of topics will contain some new information for you that will help in your career. If you’re looking to gain more clients or expand existing ones, get promoted to a leadership role, make a bigger commission or start your own business, perhaps it will be of interest to you. If not, I guess I’ll have to shift to the story about the candidate who ate mashed potatoes with his hands during the lunch interview. Seriously. Or the one about… oh wait, I’ll save that for another day.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you’ll come back soon.
